What is Sweet Orange Essential Oil?
Sweet orange essential oil is obtained from the fruit peel of the sweet orange tree—Citrus sinensis—via the cold press method. It is notable for its freshly sweet and tangy citrus scent. It is used in aromatherapy for alleviating cold and flu symptoms, and to create a sense of emotional warmth and happiness.
Sweet orange essential oil is very high in limonene, a terpene with a powerful citrus aroma and antioxidant, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Limonene is also quite effective as a household solvent.
Also present are the terpenes alpha-pinene, which can instil a sense that all is right with the world, linalool, which has antimicrobial, antidepressant and anti-anxiety properties, and myrcene, a powerful antioxidant.
