What is Lime Essential Oil?
Lime essential oil is derived from the peel of the lime fruit via a cold press method. Lime fruits used for this purpose are often selected from key lime trees, or Citrus aurantifolia. Of all the citrus essential oils, lime essential oil is the most effective for skin care. In terms of its actions, it is gentler than lemon oil, and its scent is bright, refreshing and sweetly tangy. It has a host of applications in healthcare and domestic cleaning.
Lime essential oil is very high in limonene, which is known for its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant properties. It also contains alpha and beta pinene, which aids respiratory function and assists cognitive function. When applied topically, lime oil fights acne, and assists with the healing of skin infections and wounds.
How to use lime essential oil
Lime essential oil can be applied topically, domestically, in vapour, and in soap products. We do not recommend ingesting lime essential oil without first speaking to a qualified naturopath or aromatherapist.
For minor cuts, abrasions, scrapes, etc: add 2-3 drops of lime essential oil to a cold compress and apply. Not only does it work as an antiseptic, it also helps to speed up the healing process.
For acne-prone skin: dilute 1-2 drops in a carrier oil (we recommend coconut oil) and gently apply to the affected areas. Please note that citrus essential oils increase photo-sensitivity when applied to the skin.
Like its lemon cousins, oil of Citrus aurantifolia is a superb domestic cleaner. Add 10 drops of lime oil, 10 drops of lemon oil, half a cup of white vinegar, and one cup of water to a glass spray bottle to make an all-purpose cleaner.
Add 2-3 drops to your favourite diffuser. This will reduce the potential for common cold viruses in your living space, as well as create an uplifting sense of wellbeing.
Make the most of lime's excellent skincare benefits by using a soap or bath bomb that contains lime essential oil. It will provide an uplifting and energising bathing experience, while helping to keep your skin taut, youthful, and acne-free.
Essential Oils are highly concentrated and must be used with care.
Do not apply undiluted. Not to be taken internally.
Do not use lime essential oil for treating medical conditions without first speaking to a medical professional.
