Bergamot Oil

what is bergamot oil?

bergamot flower

Bergamot Oil is extracted from the bergamot plant—citrus bergamia—and possesses a sweet citrus scent with floral undertones.

Properties

Bergamot Oil is rich in antioxidants and is renowned for its anti-fungal properties.

It is a known anxiolytic, so is often used in aromatherapy for relieving stress and anxiety. Oil of bergamot is rich in polyphenols, which can assist in maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system.

How to use Bergamot Oil

There are four common ways of administering bergamot oil. We recommend only using a quality bergamot essential oil, which you can purchase here.

Diffuser

Research has shown a couple of drops of bergamot  oil in an ultrasonic diffuser or steam vessel with some water may help soothe anxiety, calm the mind, lighten a heavy mood and promote joy.

Massage

Combine a few drops of bergamot oil with a suitable carrier oil such as sweet almond, olive or coconut oil—massage on the stomach in a circular motion to encourage digestion.

Topical application

Cleanse the skin with a cotton pad soaked in diluted  bergamot oil (use a light carrier oil such as almond oil).  Be sure to adequately dilute the oil, as undiluted bergamot oil applied directly to the skin can exacerbate sunburn.

 In soap

The anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties of bergamot essential oil can help to cleanse the skin.

Essential Oils are highly concentrated and must be used with care.

Not to be taken internally.

Do not use bergamot oil for medical treatment without first speaking to a medical professional.
